IMPORTANT INFO FOR EXTREME COLD TEMPS:
𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧: Monitor your home's humidity levels closely during these periods of extreme low temperatures! If moisture is accumulating on the inside of your windows, reduce your humidity level on your humidifier slightly, and monitor it. These units can run excessively due to your home’s heating system running mire often.
This excess condensation can pe*****te your home’s ceilings and form frost on the attic sheathing. This then melts when the sun hits the roof, causing moisture damage.
Poor insulation AND/OR ventilation are often contributors of this issue!
𝗚𝗼𝘁 𝗜𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝘀?? Time isn’t on your side!
Get them removed before the temps rise to reduce the risks of damage. Ice dams form when attic heat melts snow, and refreezes at the roof’s edges, blocking your drainage system. Over time, this can lead to leaks through ceilings, walls, and siding.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? Clear snow and ice from the first 4-6 feet above your gutters to help prevent water from freezing under your shingles.
But we recommend 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗳𝘀 to inspect your roof and attic. Addressing insulation, ventilation, and other conditions can help prevent this from happening again in the future.
