Big news for us, Pensacola! 🚢

Today, the Triumph Gulf Coast Board approved the term sheet for a proposed $76 million grant that would help bring Birdon America’s Southeastern headquarters and advanced shipbuilding facility to the Port of Pensacola.

This marks the second of three approvals needed to finalize the grant and moves us one step closer to what would be the largest job creation project in our city's history.

I shared last week what this would mean for us, and want to recap it again here:

✅ 2,000 new jobs
✅ Average salaries ranging from $68,000 to $112,000
✅ A $275 million investment in our community
✅ A 400,000-square-foot advanced shipbuilding facility at our port
✅ Long-term economic growth and opportunities for local families

Birdon is a globally recognized maritime engineering and shipbuilding company that supports the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and allied defense forces. This facility would produce critical ship and submarine components while helping strengthen America's maritime industrial base.

Beyond the jobs and investment, this project will create opportunities for future generations through partnerships with the University of West Florida, Pensacola State College, and IHMC to develop a strong workforce pipeline right here in Pensacola.

I am grateful to our City team and community partners who have worked tirelessly to get us to this point.

We still have important steps ahead, but today is a major milestone for the future of our port, our economy, and our city.
