Hi everyone, this is your friendly local realtor here with some tips for staying ready this hurricane season ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ผ
Lets dive right into it๐๐ผ
We are kicking off the 2024 hurricane season with the first named storm, Hurricane Berylโ๏ธ
This storm has affected the islands and it looks like for those of us that live in Florida we will not be affected BUT lets talk about hurricane preparedness for those that are new here in Florida๐ฅ๏ธ
1.) Stay Informed: Monitor weather reports and updates from reliable sources. Sign up for alerts and warnings from local authorities.
2.) Have An Emergency Kit: Assemble a disaster supply kit that includes essentials such as water, non-perishable food, flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, medications, personal hygiene items and important documents.
3.) Secure Your Home: Trim tress and shrubs, secure loose outdoor items, reinforce windows and doors. Consider installing storm shutters or plywood to protect your windows.
4.) Have An Evacuation Plan: Know your evacuation zone and plan where you will go if there is an evacuation order.
5.) Communication Plan: Have a communication plan in place with family and friends in case of separation. Have a designated out-of-town contact person that everyone can check in with if need be.
6.) Back-Up Power: If you are able to now is the time to purchase a back-up generator in case you lose power. If the storm is bad enough it can take days sometimes weeks for power to get restored so make sure you plan ahead!
7.) Protect Important Documents: Store copies of important documents (like insurance policies, identification and medical records) in a waterproof container and place that in a secure location.
Stay safe and stay prepared๐
