🌳 It’s hard to believe this is what’s left of so many beautiful trees in Homewood. 💔

This is just ONE of the enormous piles of trees that have been taken down following the recent storms 🌩️ in Homewood & Flossmoor.

On July 27, severe storms moved through the area, bringing a tornado to Homewood along with powerful winds, downed trees and widespread damage. 🌬️
Before the community could even fully recover, another major storm hit on August 11 - a powerful derecho that produced multiple tornadoes across the Chicago Southland, including an EF-1 tornado through the Homewood/Flossmoor area.🌪️

And now, weeks later, you can still see the aftermath everywhere. - To be clear NOT at the fault or lack of resources. The Village, Neighbors & Strangers have been truly AMAZING! It's simply a very large clean-up. ❣️

There are still 100's of homes waiting for tree services. Huge piles of branches and entire trees line streets and yards.
Some of these were beautiful, mature trees that had been part of this community for generations. 🌳

That part honestly makes me sad. 🥺

Homewood & Flossmoor are known for their beautiful, tree-lined neighborhoods. Those old trees are part of what makes this area feel like home. Seeing so many of them gone is something I don't think any of us will get used to anytime soon.

But even through all of this, I feel incredibly GRATEFUL and BLESSED. 🥰

These storms caused an unbelievable amount of destruction, but our immediate community was spared the greatest tragedy - there was no reported loss of life in Homewood or Flossmoor. And for that, I am truly thankful. ❤️

I'm also incredibly proud of the way this community has responded. 🤗

Village crews, Public Works, police, firefighters, utility workers, neighboring communities, businesses, volunteers and ordinary residents have all stepped up. Neighbors have checked on neighbors. People have helped clear trees, shared generators and supplies, helped those who couldn't manage the cleanup themselves and simply showed up when someone needed a hand.👏

It may take a while before Homewood & Flossmoor look the way they did before these storms.

And honestly, they'll never look exactly the same.

But maybe that's okay.

Because while we lost an incredible number of beautiful trees, we didn't lose the heart of the community - In fact it made us stronger in a sense. Together should feel Stronger ❤️

We will get there. One tree, one yard and one neighbor at a time. ❤️🏡

Help with disaster assistance for residents with significant storm damage.

🌳 Tree Removal Assistance: Flossmoor is connecting residents with nonprofit groups, including **Texans on Mission**, that may be able to help with storm-damaged or dangerous trees.

📍 Texans on Mission is working out of Calvary Baptist Church,
801 E. Glenwood-Dyer Road in Glenwood. Residents can stop by to request assistance.

⚠️ Their volunteers can cut/remove trees, but they do not haul the tree debris away afterward.

🏠 SBA Disaster Assistance: Help may be available for qualifying damage from the July 27 storm. The deadline for physical property damage applications is October 19.
