In this agent spotlight, we're getting to know Mary Kaley Realtor from our Baird & Warner Orland Park office. Mary has been helping clients in Illinois and Indiana buy and sell real estate for 12 years, but even prior to becoming an agent, real estate was calling her. While working her way up in a successful corporate career, Mary also owned apartment buildings and other rental properties in Florida with her husband. "I couldn't help but dabble in real estate," says Mary. This early exposure to real estate made her transition into the industry both seamless and natural.

Today, Mary finds immense joy in matching buyers with their perfect home. "I get goosebumps every time," she says. " And vice versa — finding the perfect buyer for my sellers is just as satisfying." She advises other agents to look after clients like family, and her strong base of returning clients is a testament to the passion, dedication and commitment she feels as an agent. "The most meaningful clients I have are the ones who keep coming back," Mary recalls.

Mary attributes her success to a positive attitude, a genuine love for real estate and the importance of building a strong team. Together with her team partner, Kiana Szostak, and a network of professionals, she ensures every client receives top-notch service. "There are a lot of things that go into a transaction, and making sure my clients are paired up with the right people is huge, Mary says."

We don’t fall in love with a house; we fall in strong like.

Get to know the neighborhood. Don't let your enthusiasm for a home run away with you. Before making an offer, plan on touring the neighborhood several times. If you see folks outside, stop and chat with them. We’ve found that neighbors love to talk about the neighborhood and will share both the good and the bad.

Do some research on local schools. Even if you don't have school-age children and don't plan to, buying in the best school district you can afford is a smart move. Homes there hold their value better and are easier to resell. (Greatschools.org or the Illinois State Report Card)

Consider other factors like crime rate, commute times, and distance to other things that are important to you like parks or restaurants. These things will have a big effect on how you feel about your new home once you are actually living in it. (Neighborhood Scout)

With a Metra train line direct to Downtown Chicago, and a sweet downtown with shops and restaurants, it’s a great place to live. Homewood-Flossmoor school district offers great schools, and the community has established parks, recreation, and a wonderful library.
