The Great Freon Phase-Out

In 2020, Freon will no longer be produced in the USA due to environmental protection regulations. When production stops, existing supplies of Freon will decrease in availability and increase in price. For the average consumer, this means that maintaining a Freon-dependent Air Conditioning Unit will become costly.

You can start preparing for the Freon Phase-out using the tips below:

1. Put off the cost of a new unit and increase the life of your existing Air Conditioning Unit by having it serviced and cleaned for the season. Well-tuned and clean equipment will run longer and more efficiently than equipment that has not been serviced.

2. Determine if it is necessary to top off your A/C unit with Freon in the near future. If so, take advantage of current rates by adding more Freon this year.

3. If your Air Conditioning unit must be replaced, ensure the new unit does not use Freon as its refrigerant. Freon-dependent units may be available at deeply discounted rates, but will cost more in the long run due to the increasing prices and low availability of Freon.
