The latest REMAX National Housing Report shows that housing inventory continued to rise this spring as new listings outpaced buyer demand.
Here’s what the April 2026 data revealed 👇
✔️ The number of homes for sale increased 4.5% over March 2026
✔️ Inventory was up 2.0% year over year
✔️ Home sales still increased in April as the spring market stayed active
✔️ More listings are giving buyers additional options heading into summer
📍 What does this mean in the Chicago suburbs?
In communities like Orland Park, Tinley Park, Frankfort, Lockport, Homer Glen, and surrounding southwest suburbs of Chicago, buyers are seeing more inventory compared to earlier this year. However, well maintained and properly priced homes are still attracting strong interest.
For sellers, increased inventory means pricing strategy and presentation matter more than ever. For buyers, this could create more opportunities.

🏡 April 2026 Housing Market Update is here!
The spring real estate market continues to gain momentum across the country and here in the Chicago suburbs. 🌷📈
According to the latest REMAX National Housing Report:
✔️ Home sales increased 7.6% from March
✔️ New listings jumped 10.5% month over month
✔️ Inventory rose 4.5% from March and 2.0% year over year
✔️ Median sales price climbed to $445,000
✔️ This marks the 34th consecutive month of year over year price appreciation
While year over year activity remained relatively steady across the 51 metro areas surveyed, well priced homes in communities like Orland Park, Tinley Park, Frankfort, Lockport, Homer Glen, and surrounding southwest suburbs of Chicago are still attracting strong attention from buyers.
📍 What does this mean locally?
More inventory is giving buyers additional options, but demand remains strong for updated and properly priced homes. Sellers are still benefiting from continued home price appreciation and active spring market conditions.
