🔐Key things to avoid after applying for a mortgage

Buying a home can get so complicated sometimes — it can get hard to keep track of what you should or shouldn’t do BEFORE and AFTER applying for a mortgage. But, it’s important to take these pieces of advice seriously, because they can make or break your ability to buy a home.🏠

Here are three things you should NOT do AFTER applying for a mortgage:

❌ DON’T deposit or withdraw large amounts of money until speaking with your lender.

❌ DON’T co-sign other loans for anyone.

❌ DON’T close any credit card or open a new line of credit.

All of these have the potential to raise red flags to lenders and make the home buying experience even more complicated.

Scam artists are real! Protect your real estate transaction from wire fraud‼️

These steps may prevent falling victim to wire scam:

🛑STOP: If you receive an email or text with wiring instructions, do not reply. If you receive a phone call with wiring instructions, tell the caller you’re going to hang up to verify the information.

📞CALL: To make sure you have received a legitimate request, call a trusted phone number you have used before to contact the lender or escrow officer or use a number written in the contract. Do NOT use a number listed in the email sent to you or call the number that texted you. There could be a fraudster on the other end of the call, ready to trick you into diverting funds to their account.

🗣VERIFY: After calling a trusted number, talk to the person and verify that there has been a change to wiring instructions.

“How many homes should I view before buying one?”

That’s up to you! There’s no magic number, but technology has allowed home buyers to look at hundreds of homes in a matter of hours.

For sure, home shopping is easier today than ever before. For example, the ability to view homes virtually has completely changed the home buying game. Convenience is at an all-time high. But, nothing beats visiting a home to see how it looks and ‘feels’ in person.

My advice: Go easy on yourself trying to view 20 or 30 homes in a day. That’s information overload. View three to five homes in a day, and if nothing jumps out, take a breather and start again another time.
