When the full Moon rises above Lady Liberty’s torch it is already a beautiful sight 🌕🗽, but a lunar halo turns it into something magical. Last night a pale ring shimmered over New York Harbor, wrapping the Statue of Liberty in a soft circle of light ✨.
This gentle halo appears when moonlight travels through countless hexagonal ice crystals drifting in high cirrus clouds ❄️. As the light bends, it forms a nearly perfect 22 degree circle around the Moon, creating a radiant crown in the winter sky 🌌.
Standing 305 feet tall since 1886, the Statue of Liberty has long welcomed generations with her bright flame and steady presence 🔥. Last night the sky seemed to greet her in return, placing a luminous wreath of moonlight above her, crafted by ice crystals floating miles overhead ☁️✨.
