Are you like me and flabbergasted by the devastation Hurricane Helene has brought? We Floridians accept the risk living here and steel ourselves every year for hurricane season, but our friends in the mountains - they have been side-swiped. One thing is for sure, tragedy is painful whether we're prepared or surprised. If you're wondering what disaster relief organization might be best to partner your prayers with, please read on for a few suggestions.
Family and co-workers impacted have shared what is working and isn't working on the Gulf-Coast and in the mountain regions right now. They've suggested folks check out Operation Airdrop an organization of pilots flying in supplies to the hard hit areas especially those where roads no longer exist. Their Operation Helene is up and running. For those of you who research organizations before donating to them I couldn't find any ratings on them on the various rating websites, though there is plenty of info on their activities posted on Reddit and other easily found sites.
World Central Kitchen founded by Chef José Andrés is another incredible charity. You may remember Chef going into action after the earthquake in Haiti and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. WCK is up and running throughout Hurricane Helene's path feeding victims and the rescuers working tirelessly on their behalf. Research shows a minimum of 96% of their donations is spent on those directly in need.
Another option to consider is KW Cares. KW Cares is a charitable organization I am proud to vouch for as a Keller Williams real estate agent and regular contributor. Look it up and you'll see it has a stellar 99-100% rating on Charity Navigator and other charity rating sites. KW Cares provides support during all tragedies large and small directly to its KW family. As of October 1, KW Cares has distributed close to 500 generators to families hit by Helene along with a myriad of other supplies. If you know anything about KW it's probably its culture of one for all -all for one. Should you opt to donate to this organization rest assured your dollar will help more than one family in need.
Please don't hesitate to share other relief organizations where donation dollars are spent predominantly on relief activities rather than payroll and advertisements below.
