Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida

Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, a private nonprofit organization, is the largest provider of homeless services in Central Florida.

Helping Central Florida neighbors experiencing homelessness move toward stable housing while building the future of homelessness services through The Foundations Project. Our mission is to transform the lives of homeless men, women and children by providing crucial services to end their crisis of homelessness. The Coalition operates two campuses, both located in downtown Orlando. The main campus includes the Center for Women & Families (CWF) and the Men's Service Center (MSC). Through the generosity and support of our community, we provide crucial programs and services to help our clients regain lives of independence and self-sufficiency.

Our team recently started the day with an outdoor yoga session as part of our staff wellness efforts. Moments like these give us a chance to recharge, connect with one another, and take care of the people who spend every day caring for our community.

A strong, supported team helps us continue showing up with compassion and purpose for the men, women, and children we serve each day. ๐Ÿ’™

(3/3) Rosemary and Darrianโ€™s journey continued after they returned home, hoping things would be different.

By November 2025, Rosemary knew it was time to leave for good. Remembering the help she had received from the Coalition, she and Darrian arrived at our Intake and Diversion Center around 4 a.m.

It was a cold morning, and while they waited, someone nearby offered them a blanket. Rosemary wrapped it around Darrian as he fell asleep in her lap.

By 7 a.m., they met with an Intake Specialist who helped connect Rosemary with her family in Colorado, where she and Darrian would be welcomed home.

Because of supporters like you, Rosemary and Darrian found a path back to family, safety, and a new beginning.

Teamwork looks a little different off the field! โšฝ

During Hunger Action Month, weโ€™re recognizing the community partners who help put meals on the table for guests at the Coalition.

Our neighbors at Orlando City SC recently joined us in Parramore for a meal serve. Their team helped prepare and serve meals to guests at the Coalition, providing an important assist to our daily work.

Thank you, Orlando City, for helping us tackle hunger together! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

(2/3) Rosemary and Darrianโ€™s story continued with a difficult choice: choosing safety.

Choosing to leave home after an escalation between Rosemary and her partner became physical meant stepping into the unknown.

Rosemary and Darrian fled to her workplace for safety. There, her coworkers gave them food, and the Orlando Police Department provided safe transportation to the Coalition. They stayed overnight at the Center for Women and Families before Rosemary returned home, hoping things had settled.

But it wasnโ€™t long before she realized they hadnโ€™t...

Our team had a great opportunity to connect, learn, and exchange ideas with leaders from across the state at the 2026 Florida Conference on Ending Homelessness in Orlando!

Brad Butterstein, President and CEO; Mimi Coenen, Chief Operating Officer; Maria De Jesus, Director of Housing Programs and Services; and Vereuch Simmons, Assistant Director of Housing and Programs, represented the Coalition throughout the conference.

The annual conference brings together professionals committed to ending homelessness for opportunities to learn, collaborate, connect, and share solutions.

Thank you to Brian Postlewait, President of the Florida Coalition to End Homelessness and Chief Operating Officer of Homeless Services Network of Central Florida, for a great conference and for bringing the community together.

Our team spent their time attending seminars, exchanging ideas with others in the field, and gaining new perspectives to bring back to our work here in Central Florida.

Weโ€™re proud to be part of conversations that strengthen our collective efforts to better serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness across our community. ๐Ÿ’™

Members of our team had an amazing day at the 16th Annual Orange Appeal Womenโ€™s Conference, presented by AdventHealth, connecting, learning, and hearing from influential women across Central Florida.

They attended breakout sessions on Community Leadership and Accelerate Your Brand, explored exhibits featuring local businesses, and heard from inspiring keynote speakers. They also had the opportunity to create blessing bags as part of the dayโ€™s activities.

Thank you to Orange Appeal for bringing women from across Central Florida together for such a meaningful event, and to the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts for the beautiful setting and warm hospitality!

(1/3) Meet Rosemary and her son Darrian.

When Rosemary fled an unsafe home with her young son, Darrian, there was no time to pack. Seeking refuge, she left without shoes, without her phone, and without knowing where they would sleep that night.

Rosemary moved with her partner of 13 years from Colorado to Kissimmee with their son Darrian. Everything was great, Rosemary recalled, but things quickly became unstable.
Her partnerโ€™s drinking became more frequent.

Around September 2025, the situation reached a breaking point. One night after Rosemary returned home from work, an argument escalated into physical violence while Darrian was nearby. Rosemary took her son and fled the house without her phone or even their shoes.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

According to the Shimberg Center for Housing Studies at the University of Florida, just over one-third of Florida students experiencing homelessness passed state English, Math, and Science assessments during the 2024โ€“2025 school year.

For children experiencing homelessness, instability can extend into the classroom. Thatโ€™s why access to learning is an important part of the support we provide at the Coalition.

Our certified VPK program gives our youngest guests a consistent place to learn, build early literacy skills, and prepare for kindergarten, all while their families work toward stability.

This International Literacy Day, weโ€™re celebrating the power of learning and the opportunities it can create for every child. ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’™
