The latest statewide report brings to light the mounting pressures on renters and homeowners alike: over 2.5 million low-income Floridians are spending more than 30% of their income on housing, and for 1.4 million of those households, that burden rises above 50%. For every 100 extremely low-income renters, there are just 25 affordable units available—a stark reminder of how limited the options have become, especially for those feeling the greatest strain.

On the positive side, state leaders have fully funded housing assistance and rental finance programs for the sixth consecutive year, along with approving $50 million in homebuyer assistance. Still, more than 30,000 privately owned affordable units have been identified as at risk by 2034, underscoring how vital preservation and stability will be in the coming decade.
