Most of the homes I walk through blur together. These three didn’t.

Tell me the most unique thing you’ve ever seen in a home. I want to hear it.

A sauna right off the indoor sport court. Honestly, it might be the most Minnesota luxury-home combination I’ve seen. Play basketball or pickleball inside all winter, then head straight into the sauna.

A hidden pantry behind what looked like regular wall paneling. I loved that the kitchen stayed beautiful and clean, while the coffee maker, toaster, appliances and everyday mess had a place to disappear.

Refrigerator drawers built right into the kitchen island. This one is less a one-off and more a trend. I’m seeing it in almost every renovation around Lake Minnetonka and Wayzata right now.

None of these are the reason somebody buys a house. They’re the reason they remember it.

I see the most of this in Wayzata, Orono, and the newer builds around Medina, where people are renovating with real intention.

Everything worth doing around Minneapolis & Lake Minnetonka this Labor Day weekend, all in one place.

A few ways I’d spend the long weekend:

Staycation at Hotel Excelsior and spend the weekend walking Water Street, grabbing dinner downtown and soaking up the last stretch of summer on Lake Minnetonka.

Live music at Excelsior Brewing Friday or Saturday night.

Apple picking at Fall Harvest Orchard in Delano. The orchard opens for the season Saturday, September 5, with apples, wagon rides, farm animals and plenty to make an afternoon of it.

Kayak Minnehaha Creek in Minneapolis for one more summer afternoon on the water.

And of course, one last day at the Minnesota State Fair. Labor Day is the final day of the fair, so Monday absolutely counts.

A few more ideas for Labor Day weekend around Minneapolis & Lake Minnetonka:

Bike the Dakota Rail Regional Trail and stop at Back Channel Brewing in Spring Park.

Spend an afternoon exploring the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

Get out on Lake Minnetonka for one more boat day before summer starts winding down.

Save this for Labor Day weekend when you’re trying to figure out what to do around Minneapolis, Lake Minnetonka and the surrounding suburbs.

People assume you sell because something went wrong. Usually it’s the opposite. Life changed and the house didn’t.

Here’s what that can actually look like:

The house in Plymouth or Medina that once felt just right is suddenly more space than you want to maintain. Now you’re thinking about something closer to downtown Wayzata, where morning coffee at The Grocer’s Table, dinner at Gianni’s, and an evening walk along Lake Minnetonka are part of the week.

Or it’s the opposite. The home that once felt like plenty suddenly feels tight, and you’re looking toward Orono or Medina for a little more room, a bigger yard, and a home that fits the way you live now.

Maybe you bought in 2020, locked in a great rate and have been hesitant to give it up. But you’ve also built equity, and you’re realizing you may finally be ready to make the move you’ve been putting off.

Or maybe Minnesota is still home, just not for all 12 months of the year. A few months somewhere warmer means morning golf, dinner outside, and February without a snow shovel.
