Life teaches us lessons every day. Today we learn it is not always fair and it does not always make sense. Doug & his mom Kris were huge influences of mine in real estate. He was always someone who would give you his honest opinion like it or not and for that I always respected him more.
For some people it takes a lifetime 60 plus years to leave their mark and legacy Doug did it in a fraction of the time. His legacy will live on with his family, and Re/Max on The Water. Until we meet again Doug thank you for all you have done and the opportunity you have given me.
Our RE/MAX family lost a very special man today. Below are the words from his wife Nicole. 💕
I am heartbroken to have to say, I said goodbye to my best friend, partner in crime and most importantly, my husband early this morning at 1:21 am.
Doug was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in August 2018 while I was 5 months pregnant with our miracle baby, Ethan. We decided to keep his journey off social media. He endured grueling chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. We celebrated almost 1.5 years of clean scans. In December 2020 during routine scans, lesions were discovered on his liver. 3 different types of treatments later here we are. My heart is broken. I laid with him as he took his last breathe and he fought until the very last one. He never complained. He worked every single day up until the last few weeks. He was our hero in so many ways, as much as I got annoyed of well everything and let him know it, I am so proud to be his wife.
He was the calm to my storm. My sanity. I met Doug on my 21st birthday way back in 2007 and if only our worlds wouldn’t have taken until 2013 to truly come together - sometimes I get sad it took us so long to finally figure it out. There was an instant connection. I truly believe he is my soulmate.
I want to thank all of our family and friends - for all your love and support. We wouldn’t have been able to make it this far without any of you. And to the crew in Oncology at Aurora - thank you, for taking such good care of my special guy. You all meant more to us than you know. The moment yesterday where you all escorted us out, holding us, hugging and tears down everyone’s face is a moment I will never forget. Thank you.
He is with his mom, Kris Villars again ♥️.
