As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, it’s fitting that we spend a moment thinking about something we work with every day: signatures.
Most people think of a signature as simply ink on paper. But a signature is much more than that—it’s part of your identity. It’s your way of saying, “I understand, I agree, and I’m making this official.”
We also can’t help but imagine what it must have been like to coordinate one of history’s most famous signing ceremonies. Someone had to keep track of the document, make sure it made its way to each signer, and ensure everyone signed where and when they were supposed to. And you have to wonder what everyone thought after John Hancock’s famously bold signature took up so much space!
Two hundred fifty years later, a lot has changed. While many real estate transactions still include traditional wet-ink signatures, we’ve also embraced electronic signatures and even online notarizations. Who knows what the signing process will look like another 250 years from now? One thing we’re confident won’t change is that important moments will always involve people coming together to make something official.
From all of us at PM Title, we wish you a safe and happy Independence Day. 🇺🇸
If you’ve achieved the dream of homeownership, take a moment today to appreciate the place you call home. And if you’re still working toward that goal, keep going—you may be closer than you think.
