I feel for every homeowner in Jackson County who’s been hit with unfair property tax assessments. Citizens aren’t losing their homes because of mortgage payments, they’re losing them because unfair tax hikes make staying impossible

It’s no wonder we saw the recall of Frank White. When leaders double down instead of taking ownership of a broken system, trust is lost.

As a REALTOR®, I’ve personally helped past clients fight their assessments and every single one was successful. But here’s the problem: in Jackson County, it took me atleast over 8 hours just to gather and help submit the required paperwork for each past client who reached out and prep them for their hearing. Imagine trying to do that alone without guidance. Jackson County residents have been taken advantage of, and it should not be this hard to defend your rights as a homeowner.

Our community deserves transparency, fairness, and leadership that listens. Hopefully, this recall means that the citizens’ voices have finally been heard and I am hopeful that real change is coming.

👉 And to : consider this your warning. Jackson County’s leadership just learned what happens when homeowners are pushed too far. Fix these property taxes before your residents put you under the same spotlight.

A heads up to residents and property owners in Johnson County: Members of the Johnson County Appraiser's Office continue to be in the field completing field inspections for properties with open, new construction permits and transfer sales occurring throughout the 2025 valuation year.

The appraisal staff will wear clothing with a Johnson County Appraiser’s Office logo on the upper left chest area for easy visibility. The staff will have the employee badge in a visible location to present it when contacting the property owner.

Appraisal staff do not need to conduct an interior inspection and won't ask to come inside a residence.

Well this is exciting.

A $102 million redevelopment plan at 8700 Shawnee Mission Parkway — the site of the former Johnson County Library — is poised to bring major changes to Merriam, including a long-awaited Trader Joe’s. City documents and a building permit posted on Reddit indicate the national grocery chain will anchor the new 12,500 sq. ft. city-owned grocery space. The Johnson County Post has since confirmed the news. The project, led by Drake Development — the same group behind the nearby Merriam Grand Station — will also include over 200 market-rate apartments, new retail space, and a restaurant with a drive-thru. With only two other Trader Joe’s in the metro, this development marks a major win for northeast Johnson County.
