Last week Jeff and I visited Cumberland Maryland the town is built where fort Cumberland once existed. A 23-year-old George Washington and his troops built trenches at fort Cumberland in the 1750s. 90 years later in 1841 this church was built on top of the trenches The trenches were preserved for the basement of the church they led to other buildings in the town. A few years later these trenches would hide slaves that were trying to get to freedom. In the early part of the 20th century Charles Tiffany designed and manufactured three of the stained glass windows for this church.
