How to inspect your home for leaks. In this two minute video, follow three steps to check your home for plumbing leaks, both inside the home, and under ground.
Step 1: Find your water meter and turn on a hose bib to confirm your meter is working. You should see water flow at the meter.
Step 2: Once your water meter is confirmed to be functioning, find your water shut off valve outside the home, and turn it off. At the meter, your water flow should stop. If it doesn’t, you either have a faulty shut off valve, or an underground leak from your meter to your shut off valve.
Step 3: Turn your water to the home back on at the shut off valve, turn off the hose bib and check your meter. If you have no water movement - congrats! You have no leaks. If you have water movement, give a call to a local reputable plumber.

"Can you spot 4 major problems with this home?"

Problem 4: The trees were planted too close to the home:
The main plumbing line was lifted by a tree root and cracked, causing an undetected leak to cause soil erosion and undermine the foundation of the carport shed - as well as the pier block foundations under the home.

This is a major problem with a major price tag!
- How would you correct this issue?

1. Turn off the power and water to the home.
2. Cut down and remove trees and tree stumps and roots.
3. Back fill soil under the home and correct all foundation problems.
4. Have the power company run a new service line to a new service panel. Correct wiring service issues to the home.
4. Have a plumber run a new plumbing line to the home from the water meter / tap into the existing one where possible.
5. Run new irrigation valves and pipes as needed.

Problems 2 & 3: The trees were planted too close to the irrigation system.
The irrigation valve pipes and wiring have been completely covered by neighboring tree roots! One of the root systems has lifted a pipe, cracking it and causing a leak.
How would you correct this issue?
