Here are some helpful hot weather tips from one of our trusted HVAC contractors.

Friends, it’s going to be HOT this week.

I have a few helpful tips for you from your friendly HVAC girl:

1. Turn your AC down a little more than normal. Let it get cooler so that it stays cooler longer.

2. For my friends who love a programable thermostat and letting the temperature go up during the day when you’re at work, give it a rest this week. Set it and leave it and let your system maintain temperature. Trying to drop the temperature in the heat of the day is super hard on the system and not economical.

3. Turn the fan to the ‘ON’ position on the thermostat. It’s designed to do this, it doesn’t cost a lot, and it allows the system to more easily maintain temperature. Remember, moving air feels cooler than stationary air.

4. Drop the temperature a couple degrees at night. This will help it stay cooler longer during the day when it gets super hot.

5. Keep your blinds closed. Letting the sun in causes your hvac system to work harder.

6. Use your ceiling fans to your advantage.

7. Spray out the outside unit. Dirt and debris cause the system to not be able to pull in adequate air and not be able to cool as well. A water hose on medium pressure will work wonders.

8. Clean your filter. If your filter is dirty, you’re suffocating the hvac system. Show it some TLC and clean or replace the filter.

9. If you have a second floor in your home and it’s holding within 5-7 degrees of the set temperature, CONGRATULATIONS! This is a huge accomplishment when it’s hotter than fish grease outside.

10. If you see ice outside on the refrigerant lines, TURN IT OFF at the thermostat. Check the filter. Spray the outside unit out. Leave it off 4-6 hours - it could be frozen in places you can’t see. Turn it back on. If it’s still freezing up, call us.

Owen County Chamber of Commerce Celebrates With A Ribbon Cutting for The Healing Cove

The Owen County Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated with an official ribbon cutting ceremony on May 28th for The Healing Cove, owned and operated by Madison Steffey.�

Established just two months ago, The Healing Cove was created with a mission to provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where individuals and families can grow, heal, and strengthen relationships. Madison opened the practice in Owen County after recognizing the unique challenges rural communities often face when trying to access mental health care.

“In a rural community, getting mental health care can be a challenge in ways people don't always realize,” Steffey said. “I started this practice to make it easier for people to actually get the help they're looking for without jumping through so many hoops.”

The Healing Cove offers outpatient mental health therapy services for children, teens, and adults, as well as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). PCIT is an evidence-based, positive play therapy designed for young children and their caregivers. Through both child-led and parent-led play, families work together to strengthen relationships, improve emotional connection, and decrease behavioral concerns.

Steffey brings more than five years of experience to her work as a therapist and is deeply passionate about helping families heal and grow together. A graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Master of Social Work degree, she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and offers both in-person and virtual appointments.

“My approach is warm, steady, and relational,” Steffey shared. “Whether we’re exploring attachment patterns or strengthening parent-child bonds through PCIT, clients are met with empathy, consistency, and a space where nothing is ‘too much.’”

Clients at The Healing Cove can expect a calm and welcoming environment where therapy moves at their own pace, with a focus on emotional regulation, healthier connections, and compassionate support.
