HOME TAKES TIME. 🤎
I've been thinking about something lately...
If you know me personally, you probably know that I LOVE all things home. Not just real estate, the actual home part!
I love remodeling. I love figuring out how a space SHOULD flow. I love color, wallpaper, fabrics, old furniture, antiques, thrifted finds, weird little architectural details... basically anything that makes a house feel like it has a story.
I've completely gutted and remodeled a house myself (I was more of the ‘help tear it apart’ with the vision, Tim was my magical handyman🤣), on a budget, and I've also helped transform a completely different kind of space with MJCO. So I love figuring out not only how a space should look, but how it should actually function.
And I've realized how often people ask me for decorating advice.
“Would you take this wall down?”
“How would you arrange this living room?”
“What color would you paint this?”
“How would you decorate this room?”
“What would you do with this space?”
And honestly... I LOVE answering those questions.
As a Realtor, I'm constantly walking into homes. I see everything from completely undecorated houses, to homes where someone has clearly tried but just needs a little direction, to those homes where you walk through the door and immediately think, I love this house.
Those are my favorite!
Not because everything is expensive or perfectly coordinated, but because the house has character! The furniture, colors, textures and little collections all feel like they belong there. Every piece seems to have a story.
That's what I love.
My own home is probably the best example. About 90% of what's in my house is secondhand. As I'm sitting in my den writing this and looking around... my leather couch was FREE from Facebook Marketplace. My plaid chair was $20. The bookshelf, coffee table and lamp all came from Marketplace. My desk is from a local vintage shop, and all my wall and shelf decor is thrifted...
And it didn't happen overnight.
I've been collecting these things for YEARS.
I would much rather have a room full of pieces I've found, loved and collected than walk into a store and buy an entire room in one afternoon. And yes, I fully understand that this is not everyone's style, and that's OK!
I just love a home that feels collected instead of purchased.
I want to walk into a room and wonder where that weird old lamp came from. I want the antique chair to have a story. I want the artwork to mean something. I want different patterns, textures, woods and colors to work together without everything looking like it came from the same showroom.
So as I always say… HOME TAKES TIME. 🤎
And apparently I'm not the only one who thinks this way, because I've been getting more and more requests for decorating advice.
Which got me thinking...
Would people be interested in having someone help them figure out the potential of their home?
Maybe it's helping you figure out the best layout for your living room.
Maybe you're remodeling and can't decide whether that wall should come down. (I am big on flow of traffic, especially with furniture placement!)
Maybe you're trying to figure out paint colors, wallpaper, fabrics, patterns or finishes that actually work together.
Maybe you have a beautiful antique piece and have no idea how to make it work with the rest of your house.
Maybe your house just feels... blah... and you know it needs something, but you can't figure out what.
Or maybe you just want someone to come in and say, “Okay, here's what I would do.”
I also have a serious soft spot for furniture flipping. I've been watching Flea Market Flip again lately (🤣) and it's definitely putting me back in the mood to rescue some old pieces. I love taking something that someone else might overlook and figuring out what it could become, while still respecting what made the piece special in the first place!
I'm not sure exactly what this could look like yet, but I'm curious...
Would this be something you (or someone you know) would be interested in?
Because apparently I may need to find a way to make my obsession with old furniture, remodeling, thrifting and decorating everyone's houses into an actual thing! 🤎
Side note!
I am so excited to share photos of what we do at our new house🏡 I have a fun list of to do’s and I think we’re crossing one off the list this week! I will share more once we finish! Small changes make big impacts! ☑️🤗
