Growing up in the Delta in the 70s and 80s, we didn’t have a Bass Pro shop or Walmart full of hunting and fishing gear. We had Pauls Mart in Cleveland. Pauls Mart is closed and all the inventory is being auctioned off online to those of you who have been in Pauls Mart. You understand the enormity of that I believe I just saw some items in that store that I saw when I was 10 years old, still sitting on the same shelf. Great looking cotton crop!

37 yrs ago I was picking this cotton field as a custom job. I think we had 4 2 row pickers and 2 4 row pickers and trailers and modules. We were helping out some friends whose crop got ready early. That is what farmers do, help their neighbors! That’s the Small Town way! Neighbors helping neighbors!

On my mind today with fuel cost once again rising up is why don’t we make more biodiesel? I am not a scientist and don’t understand all the aspects of making bio diesel. I looked into starting a plant years ago when soybean were very cheap. Does anyone out there seeing this have real scientific info on why we don’t produce more biodiesel? I do know would rather make soybean oil into bio diesel then to cook with it.

Today’s delta crop to discuss is Milo. Not a lot of acreage dedicated for this grain in Mississippi, but it is a versatile crop for small farms and also can be used to hunt over.
What are your thoughts the subject? Is it a part of your farm plan, ever or annually? To me , Milo or grain sorghum , is a great crop to consider for small farms.

How do you know you are in the delta ? When the mosquito truck comes thru and fogs the parking lot! No where else in the world, will you get a “ party’s over , everyone is headed to their car, courtesy mosquitoe spray drive by”
