Design is essential in all endeavors; as such I am a generalist with special interests in business relationships, value, optimal use of resource and helping my clients reach for and achieve what will truly delight them. I am mostly self-educated; I am attracted to things which fascinate me; elegance, usefulness and value for clients are consistent results of my work. As a curious youth I worked summers in Real Estate & construction and quickly learned that most things are not optimally suited for their intended purpose. A lot is generally missing: The exploration and inquiry that must precede any endeavor are often done insufficiently; especially detailed outcomes and agreements. Too much compromise, not enough reaching for what will delight clients and users. Often people neither know what’s missing for them nor how to discover those things. Several decades later I find that I have re-designed significant aspects of most projects I worked on and many related things as well. Clients tell me they would not have known to ask for what I offered and provided. They wondered where these design ideas came from, and the thoroughness and curiosity required to produce them. All I have ever been able to say about that is: that when I listen deeply to my clients' concerns & wants, observing with care the constraints and available resources of all kinds, I consistently provide a design solution that goes well and happily beyond satisfying client expectations.
