Arkansas could observe nearly a foot of rain through this Sunday.

Multiple strong storm systems are set to traverse our region. Of course, tornadoes, hail and damaging winds will be possible at times.

However, don't sleep on the flooding concern as we get numerous waves of rainfall.

Below is the latest WPC guidance through Sunday night.

Yes, those are 9 to 11 inch projections across a large swath of Arkansas.

Even if this data is too aggressive, significant rainfall amounts seem likely through the next week.

Tornadoes and big hail receives a bunch of attention on social media, rightfully so.

Flooding can be extremely dangerous and leads to many deaths every single year.

This is just one more thing to watch as we progress through the work week and weekend.

After discussion with administrative officials a decision has been made to leave the BURN BAN in effect. We are asking for cooperation from citizens in this matter, and to refrain from any open burning.

However, the current forecast indicates that significant rainfall amounts may potentially take place this weekend starting on Saturday and going into early next week. It is very likely that the ban could be lifted as soon as Monday morning, IF sufficient and meaningful rainfall takes place.

Rainfall from last night was beneficial and is providing temporary relief from the dry conditions. However, winds this afternoon will increase from the northwest to north, which will deplete moisture from the dead and dormant fuels. Forecast for Friday has easterly winds around 5 mph. Rainfall chances for Saturday is up to 70%, with 70% for Sunday and Monday.

Arkansas Forestry Division Wildfire Danger Rating for Franklin and neighboring counties is at HIGH, which is a downgrade from the previous EXTREME rating. Hopefully with the expected rains over the weekend, we will be downgraded further to either a MODERATE or LOW.
