At the peak of the storm, inflow into Navajo Lake hit 22,257 cfs. One cfs equals about 449 gallons per minute, so at peak flow nearly 10 million gallons per minute were pouring into the lake. In the last 24 hours alone, the lake has risen over 8 feet.

Keeping everyone in the area in our thoughts, this storm has affected so many in our community.

This math is just crazy to me!

Realtor safety tip: when a client needs you mid-drive, always find a safe place to pull over. I take this very seriously. The view had nothing to do with it.

There is a lot to know about living in the mountains. We are here for ALL of it.

A south-facing driveway is basically a feature. You may not care in July. You will care deeply in January.

And a north-facing driveway can hold snow until approximately Memorial Day.

“Great mountain views” and “great winter sun exposure” are NOT the same thing.

The driveway may be more important than the kitchen. Can the propane truck get in? Septic truck? Moving truck? Fire truck? Can you get in after 14 inches of snow?

“Year-round access” deserves follow-up questions. Who plows it? When? How much? To what point?

Snow storage is a thing. It's not enough to plow the driveway—you need somewhere to PUT the snow.

Roof orientation matters. That innocent-looking roof can unload 800 pounds of snow directly onto the spot where you planned to park.

Ice dams aren't something you learn about voluntarily.

A beautiful deck underneath a roof valley may become the designated avalanche landing zone.

“Well” doesn't automatically mean unlimited free mountain water.

Twenty acres can occasionally have less usable land than two acres.

Your gorgeous remote cabin may be difficult—or expensive—to insure. Distance from fire protection, wildfire risk, roof type and access matter.

At altitude, your furnace, fireplace and appliances may have different requirements.

A gorgeous vacant lot in July can look like an entirely different piece of property under four feet of snow.

Also, weid things happen here...like your chip bags puff up, your preground coffee grinds greet you unexpectedly in the morning when opening a new container and Grandma's fool proof baking recipe - nope, not here. Baking at altitude is a whole thing.

🏔️ WELL… THIS SEEMS LIKE A PRETTY GOOD FIT.

Pinnacle Realty Group is growing, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome Kristina “Kricket” Olin as our newest Associate Broker.

And when we say Kricket knows Western Colorado… we mean it.

She's spent more than a decade working, patrolling, exploring and protecting these mountains.

Sometimes apparently from the VERY TOP OF THEM. 😂

And buckle up, because Kricket is not exactly your average Realtor.

She earned her degree in Natural Resource Management from Colorado State University and spent more than a decade with the U.S. Forest Service as a Backcountry and Snow Ranger right here in Western Colorado. She has patrolled trails and wilderness areas, worked with hunters and recreationists, taught avalanche and backcountry safety, worked alongside law enforcement, and helped manage some of the places that make this corner of Colorado so special.

Today, she also serves as the Alpine Ranger Lead with the Ouray County Sheriff’s Office, helping educate and assist people exploring Ouray County’s backcountry.

But apparently that wasn't enough adventure for one lifetime.

Before all of that, Kricket spent nearly a DECADE working in Antarctica, including living at the South Pole for more than a year. She worked remote science camps, coordinated logistics, managed crews and helped keep operations running in one of the harshest environments on Earth.

She also lived and worked on Kwajalein Island in Micronesia aboard a 74-foot boat.

Oh—and because this résumé clearly needed one more completely ridiculous accomplishment...

🏂 She was a National Snowboarding Champion in 1998 AND 1999.

Seriously.

Kricket brings something incredibly special to Pinnacle: a genuine knowledge of Western Colorado, its public lands, mountains, recreation and communities that simply can't be learned from behind a desk.

She already has real estate experience representing both buyers and sellers, but more importantly, she knows this lifestyle because she has lived it.
