Keanu Reeves and Every Child Matters 🥰🥰
This is Matrix movie star Keanu Reeves. He was abandoned by his father at 3 years old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. He is dyslexic. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident. His best friend, River Phoenix, died of an overdose. His sister battled leukemia.
No bodyguards, no luxury houses. Keanu lives in an ordinary apartment and likes wandering around town and often seen riding a subway in NYC.
When he was filming the movie "The Lake House," he overheard the conversation of two costume assistants, one crying as he would lose his house if he did not pay $20,000 - On the same day, Keanu deposited the necessary amount in his bank account. In his career, he has donated large sums to hospitals including $75 million of his earnings from “The Matrix” to charities.
In 2010, on his birthday, Keanu walked into a bakery & bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him.
In 1997 some paparazzi found him walking one morning in the company of a homeless man in Los Angeles, listening to him and sharing his life for a few hours.
In life, sometimes the ones most broken from inside are the ones most willing to help others.
This man could buy everything, and instead every day he gets up and chooses one thing that cannot be bought;

Sorry to be silent for such a long time. The spring real wastage season has been crazy plus my daughter bought round trip tickets for herself and my wife and I to go to Ireland this week. Phew! I needed the break. What a blessing our daughter is to us, with or without round trip tickets!

I always feel honored to be asked to inspect a home for the realtor buying it for themselves. That is a vote of confidence I appreciate. I work with really great realtors. They work hard!

I haven't posted in a while. Busy, busy, busy. Between being a realtor, home inspector, radon tester, investor, husband, father, grandpa and involved in several small groups from church its, well, it's busy. But it is all good. Real estate has been hot lately. Last couple of days this past week has slowed a bit, allowing for office hours and chores around the house. Phew! More info coming later.

Well, real estate season is in full swing.
I love helping first time buyers in particular figure out what exactly they are getting (and getting into).
“There isn’t anything that can’t be fixed”

01/08/2020

I know. I know. I don’t post often.
I respect your inbox, postings, etc. by not posting too much nor too often!

I know this flies in the face of basic marketing strategies. Marketing says “You need to be constantly in their face so that your name is the first in their lips!”

Sorry. I refuse. I would rather have integrity and loyalty be the draw.

I have a solid group of great realtors that rely on me and greatly appreciate them. I try to serve them and their clients thoroughly.

I try not to book more than 1 inspection a day so I always have room for that short notice. Plus then at 1 a day I have time to get that report out quickly.

I truly hope my connections appreciate the limited postings, texts and emails.

I too am a realtor and I too get the mass marketing from other inspectors.

There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just not my way.

Call if you need a thorough inspection and a good rate.

Blessing!

Yes, I know, it’s been awhile. Everyone says “use social media! Fastest way to grow your business!”

But I’m old school. I’d rather grow it organically, you know, quality, integrity and word of mouth.

I’d rather be a best kept secret and have a strong relationship with my realtors ( which I do - they are the best!).

Busy flipping, inspecting, family, small groups at church. Balance!

The paradigm says that you should always be on social media. For some reason I am always too busy to even post. Been doing a lot of inspections and have rehabbed a number of properties. We have just sold off two of our flips.

I have to say, I am truly enjoying real estate. It gives me great satisfaction to help people understand their house when making such a large purchase.

And it’s not just first time buyers that need this. HGTV has caused a lot of people to make modifications to their homes with if not done professionally can be disastrous.

Obviously I feel that home inspections well worth the cost, either for peace of mind or for recouping from the buyer things that truly do need to be fixed.

I say this not because I am a home inspector and certainly not because I’m looking for more work! But I have received a number of calls from people that did not have home inspections and wanted me to come out afterwords and check on certain things that were not right.

Nobody wants to spend more money for inspections, sewer scope, radon, etc. but the truth is you’re about to spend a large sum of money and the smaller items are only to protect your big investment.

Just some thoughts.

Blessings

It has been a busy season thus far. I haven’t posted for quite a while. I just wanted to mention that Checkmate Home Inspection is now sponsoring 2 non profits each month. Both are missionaries I know personally and greatly admire.

1. THAILAND: Andres Velarde, a good friend of mine, is in Thailand working with "Love Thy Neighbor Asia". He is working with his wife helping to prevent human trafficking. He does amazing work there. He returns to the USA twice a year to work (construction and rehab) to save up and continue to support himself. Check out the website for more information. https://www.loveyourneighbor.asia/

2. HAITI: Cory Anderson and family is the son of one of my best friends (Ted) since I was 14. Cory, Sarah and their 4 children are heading to Haiti to work as missionaries specifically developing water ways for villages both for agriculture and for personal use. He is working through the Crossworld organization. https://crossworld.org/about

My last post was 4 months ago! So this must be my quarterly post. What a busy year 2018 has been! I was stretched in several directions and pushed myself hard. A LOT of 12 hr days.

But 2019 is here and I am ready. I am ready to increase my home inspections a bit and invest in real estate with my son, Scot Howat.

I’ve updated my software and I’m ready to go.

If you are buying and need a complete understanding of the property OR if you are selling and need help finding those things an inspector will call out, give me a call.
