The pure white docile ducks, and the islands that was in the lake did serve a purpose beyond keeping the water clean and a hatchery for fish to save money on restocking the lake. There were only two Egyptian geese on our lake for the full 15 years, the peeking ducks kept them away. The white ducks lived in Harmony and gave much happiness to the residents before being allowed to be butchered by the coyotes. The white ducks would not go to the islands while there was ONE baby gator in the lake, which was not removed until the last white duck was eaten. The unfortunately the expensive lake island was also removed. We’ve also lost our seasonal pelican visitor that we’ve had for a couple decades.

The Egyptian Goose is an aggressive species native to sub-Saharan Africa that has rapidly colonized southeastern Florida in the last 2 decades, likely as a result of escapees from aviculture.

Muscovy ducks p**p all over and get into the trash cans. This was never was an issue before. Now look how many Muscovy’s are making the lake home.
I personally preferred the white Peking ducks, prettier, cleaner, and kept most of the Egyptian geese and Muscovy ducks away.

Our seasonal resident has returned and brought a friend with him/her. I think they’re wondering what happened to their winter home (the island) that had been in the lake since 2010. And removed in 2025 by the vice president. I’m wondering if they will continue their visits knowing that it is no longer here? 😢 This pelican has been coming here seasonally this time of year to their beloved island for longer than most people who live here now including the inexperienced vice president.

Unfortunately, they only stuck around for two days and haven’t been seen since.
