Is Florida Home Insurance FINALLY Getting Better?
If you've been putting off buying a home in Florida because of insurance costs... I need you to hear this.
For the last few years, homeowners insurance in Florida has felt like it was spiraling — premiums doubling, carriers pulling out, buyers getting sticker shock.
But here's what's actually happening in 2026: Citizens Property Insurance — the state-backed 'last resort' insurer — has moved roughly 600,000 policies back into the private market over the last couple years. This means that more carriers are competing for your business, and more homebuyers have real options that they didn't have 12-18 months ago.
Now, obviously rates are still very property specific. An insurance premium will run less for a newer inland home compared to a coastal home with an aging roof. The age of the property’s roof & wind mitigation features are still very significant in terms of the cost of the premium.
One thing I tell every buyer that I’m working with is to get a wind mitigation inspection at the same time as the home inspection. It can reduce your insurance premium between 10 - 40%, which is HUGE & that’s money on the table that we don’t want you to leave.
If you're house hunting in the Palm Beach Gardens / Jupiter area and want to know what insurance actually looks like on a specific home, send me a DM or text me. I'll walk you through it before you even make an offer.
