My dad, also known as “Bob”, is an engineer and general contractor who worked for John D. MacArthur in the 1970’s. Much of the development of Palm Beach Gardens, North Palm Beach, Lake Park, and Palm Beach Shores is attributed to MacArthur, and my father had a hand in much of it’s infrastructure. Over the past 40+ years, he’s helped shape our area’s landscape with everything from beachfront condos to golf courses to Everglades restoration projects and everything in between.

My mother, Jayne, is a local real estate broker of nearly 50 years. She’s served thousands of clients and taught me everything I know about the business. Much of her career was spent as broker-owner of Century 21 All Star Realty, and later as broker of Quail Ridge Country Club. She was influential in the creation of many of our standard real estate forms and contracts through her 40+ years of dedication to the Board of Realtors, serving as local president in the 1990’s.

And that leaves yours truly - the last Rousseau son in my line - along with my sister, Alexandra. Having traveled a great portion of our country, I can say there’s a spirit in South Florida unlike any other I’ve seen. I think it all goes back to those early families who first settled here. They had a sense of adventure and excitement, and I think that’s what still draws people to our area today. Of course we have world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment, but South Florida’s natural beauty is what really makes it special. Nowhere else could you spend your morning on a pristine white sandy beach, follow it up with a tour of posh Palm Beach shoppes and restaurants, and end your day with an airboat ride through the Everglades!

I hope everyone can experience our area the way I have, and proudly say they are as well!

‘s campaign holds special importance to me because of my family’s long history in the great state of Florida. I’m proud to say that I’m a 7th generation Floridian and a 4th generation resident of Palm Beach County. I am ...
—————
My ancestors were pioneering settlers of Pine Grove (present-day Live Oak, FL) in the 1810’s - before Florida had achieved statehood and even before it was a US Territory. The first Rousseaus arrived in Palm Beach County (known then as Dade County) in the late 1800’s. “Ebb” Rousseau (my great-great grandfather) along with his brother “Bob” were dairymen and farmers looking to expand their operation. At that time, our area was a veritable wilderness. Palm Beach and West Palm Beach were just settlements, Flagler’s East Coast Railway was still working it’s way south, and there were fewer than 900 residents from Jupiter to Miami.
—————
Ebb would make 5 subsequent trips on horseback from Clearwater to Lake Worth, moving mules, horses, and cattle to the new homestead. Through these journeys he became friendly with members of the Seminole Tribe near Indiantown, and they eventually worked together providing cypress lumber for Flagler’s railroad as it reached Miami.
—————
Bob quickly became a Dade County commissioner, and then the first commissioner of Palm Beach County upon its creation in 1909. He was an early land developer in the area and owned one particular 80-acre tract of “useless swampland.” Today that swampland would encompass over a mile of prime intracoastal-front property in Ocean Ridge...But family lore says he probably traded it for a few cows or a mule since it had little value at the time.
—————
Ebb had two sons - my grandfather, John, and his older brother, Ford. Great-Uncle Ford carried on the dairy tradition, culminating with the 1,000 acre “Rousseau’s Dairy” in Palm Beach Gardens (now the site of Eastpointe Country Club). Grandpa John won an agricultural scholarship to the University of Florida and become a veterinarian, servicing virtually all the local farms and dairies in the 1950’s and 60’s. He also opened Boynton’s first hospital of veterinary medicine in 1957...
