Save this if you’re planning to update your outdoor space this season ☀️

I’ve been sharing a lot of tips on what to do, but today let’s talk about what to avoid.

Cool grays had a long run, but warm tones are taking over. Think sand, warm beige, terracotta, and sun washed browns. A few simple swaps like new cushions, planters, or natural wood accents can completely change the feel of your space.

Matching furniture sets are another trend I’m seeing fade. When every piece comes from the same collection, it can feel more showroom than home. Mixing materials like teak, rattan, stone, and ceramic creates a much more curated look.

And while I love a good outdoor theme, tiki bars, bamboo overload, and tropical everything have had their moment. Today’s outdoor spaces feel more natural, layered, and inspired by the landscape around them.

I also still love string lights, just don’t overdo them. Use them for ambiance and a warm glow, not to light up the entire neighborhood. The same goes for flood lights. Instead, focus on layered accent lighting like lanterns, solar path lights, uplighting around trees, and outdoor sconces.

The good news? Most of these updates are inexpensive and can be found at places like Target, Costco, and Wayfair.

Which outdoor trend are you ready to leave behind?

I’m not crying, you’re crying. OK.. I’m definitely crying. LOL 18 years ago, they handed me this tiny human and somehow, somehow, she just walked across the stage with a diploma in hand. Where did the time go?! One minute she’s loosing her first tooth, the next, she getting ready to go to UNC Chappel Hill.

To my girl… watching you grow into the smart, kind, funny, unstoppable woman you’ve become has been the biggest priveledge of my life. Carolina has no idea what’s about to hit them. Go be amazing! (But call your Momma!) I’ve got all the feels right now.

🎓Cheers to Anna, to the Class of 2026 and to all us parents going through this exciting time.

A few things that make us happy at Simple & Savvy 🤍

❤️

We recently redid the closets in our own home and wow… what a process. 🤍 They turned out beautifully, but there was way more planning, measuring, and decision-making involved than we expected. If you’re thinking about a professional closet renovation or even just a refresh, here are a few things NOT to do:

1️⃣ Don’t skip the decluttering.
And I mean really declutter. Be honest with yourself about what you actually wear and use. Less truly is more, and being able to clearly see what you own feels so freeing.

2️⃣ Don’t choose looks over function.
A beautiful closet is great, but it also has to work for your everyday life. Think about your work clothes, workout sets, handbags, shoes, accessories, and how you actually use the space.

3️⃣ Don’t design before measuring everything.
Plan ahead for long hanging items, short hanging sections, folded clothes, shoes, bags, and storage. Proper measurements make all the difference.

4️⃣ Don’t forget about lighting.
Closets should feel light, bright, and inviting, not dark and cramped. Good lighting changes everything.

5️⃣ Don’t design without room to grow.
A few empty shelves or extra hanging space may not seem important now, but trust me, you’ll appreciate it later.

If you’re in the middle of a closet refresh right now… you’ve got this!
