🤩 Florida Property Tax Plan Passed 🤩

The Property Tax Plan passed during the June 1- June 3 special session. Next step is voting in November where 60% of voters need to approve it to be amended in the Florida Constitution.

Breaking it down:
The proposal is to raise the homestead exemption threshold in phases until potentially fully eliminated.
2027 Exemption = $150,000 from $50,000
2028 Exemption = $250,000
So, if your property assessed value (which is different than your appraised value) is less than the threshold value, your taxes have been eliminated.

At this time, Public School Tax is not exempt from this proposal.

Important Note: This applies only to individuals that have established homestead residency before January 1, 2027. If you establish residency after January 1, 2027, there is a possible up to 5-year residency waiting period before benefitting from the exemption increase.

To establish residency, one needs to make their property a permanent residence by January 1, 2027 and file their homestead application by March 1, 2027.

The proposal would also reduce the max annual no homestead assessment cap to 5% from 10%.
