This week we had the opportunity to meet with Florida State Representative Sam Greco, who has become one of the leading voices in Tallahassee when it comes to protecting homeowners' rights, property rights, and promoting homeownership opportunities across Florida.
As a Key Contact for Florida Realtors®, I had the privilege of working with Representative Greco to bring him in to speak directly with our Realtor® members about the 2026 legislative session, the progress made so far this year, and the priorities that remain on the table as we move through the rest of the year.
Representative Greco has had an exceptionally successful legislative session, with seven of his bills passing through the Legislature and being signed into law. That's a significant accomplishment and reflects his commitment to addressing issues that impact Florida families, homeowners, and communities.
During our conversation, we discussed several topics that are generating a lot of interest throughout the state, including proposed property tax reforms. One of the most talked-about proposals could potentially eliminate property taxes for more than 60% of Florida homeowners and provide substantial relief for as many as 90% of homeowners with homesteaded properties. While these proposals are still being evaluated and discussed, they represent a major conversation about the future of homeownership affordability in Florida.
We also talked about the importance of protecting private property rights, supporting responsible growth, and ensuring that Florida remains a place where families can achieve and maintain the dream of homeownership.
As Realtors®, we know that the decisions made in Tallahassee have a direct impact on our clients, our communities, and the overall housing market. That's why building relationships with elected officials and staying engaged in the legislative process is so important.
I want to thank Representative Greco for taking the time to meet with our members, share valuable insights, answer questions, and continue advocating for policies that support homeowners and property owners throughout Florida.
