Take Note Sellers—This Is What First-Time Home Buyers Are Looking For
fthb-are-looking-for-cover.jpeg
First-time buyers are out in the market and ready to buy homes—and many of them are willing to go above asking in order to successfully purchase their dream property. According to a recent survey from realtor.com, a whopping 76 percent of first-time home buyers are willing to pay more than the asking price for a home.

But what, exactly, are they looking for in a property? According to the survey, some of the top priorities for first-time buyers in today’s market include:

A large backyard (35 percent)
A garage (30 percent)
An updated kitchen (30 percent)
A quiet location (26 percent)
Updated bathrooms (22 percent)
A finished basement (20 percent)
The Takeaway:
So, what does this mean for you? If you’re selling your home, it’s important to know what buyers are looking for. That way, you can bring attention to the features of your property that are most likely to attract buyers—and (hopefully!) fetch top dollar for your home in the process.

Instagram is one of the best platforms for spotting emerging home decor trends—and getting inspiration for how to bring those trends to life in your own home.

And that includes in your kitchen.

So, when it comes to kitchen decor, what’s currently trending on Instagram? A recent article from realtor.com outlined some of the platforms’s most popular kitchen decor trends for 2021, including:

Eye-catching backsplashes. There’s nothing wrong with a plain wall or subtle tile—but in 2021, a bold, eye-catching backsplash is much more on-trend. Go for a bold tile that adds texture, pattern, or color to your kitchen (or all three!).
Double islands. A kitchen island is great. But, if you’re following this year’s kitchen design trends, two kitchen islands are even better. And while adding a second island is trendy from a design perspective, it also serves a functional purpose, providing additional counter and storage space.
Open pantry shelves. Open shelving has long been a trend in kitchen design. But a current trend on Instagram? Using that shelving as a pantry. If you have open shelves in your kitchen, try using one or more shelves as a pantry to display spices, flours, and other cooking essentials.

2021 was, to say the least, an interesting year in real estate. But as the year comes to a close, the big question on everyone’s mind is what does 2022 have in store?

A recent article from realtor.com outlined some of their economists’ predictions for the 2022 housing market, including:

Home prices will stay high—but price growth will slow down. Home prices rose high and fast in 2021, with realtor.com economists predicting a 12 percent rise for 2021. And while the realtor.com team predicts that home prices will stay high, they also see that growth slowing down—with price growth projected at a much slower rate of 2.9 percent for 2022.
Inventory challenges will continue. Low inventory proved a huge challenge for buyers in 2021; fewer homes on the market meant higher competition and higher prices—and it looks like it’s going to stay that way in 2022. The economists at realtor.com only expect the number of homes available to increase by 0.3 percent in the coming year.
Mortgage rates will rise. Mortgage rates have been hovering near all-time lows throughout the year, creating even more demand for housing. But buyers hoping to score the lowest possible rate on their mortgage should act fast; the economists at realtor.com predict mortgage rates to hit 3.6 percent by the end of 2022—a significant increase from 2021’s low of 2.65 percent.
