As we roll into the busy holiday season, we hope you'll carve out some time to brush up on your avalanche skills.

Join us for our first State of the Season on 12/10 at in Palmer to hear the latest from HPAC forecasters (and pizza - did we mention pizza? ).

Our annual companion rescue workshop is on Saturday, 12/13 at the Fishhook Lot in Hatcher Pass. We'll break into groups based on mode of travel and experienced level, and provide opportunities for every attendee to practice their skills. All winter enthusiasts are welcome regardless of prior avalanche training experience!

🌲The Mat-Su Borough is updating the development plan for GPRA. The plan update will help shape the future of this beloved area.

🤔Why update? The current plan, created in 2017, guided GPRA’s initial years of development. Now, with increased use and evolving needs, we’re creating a more comprehensive plan to ensure GPRA continues to serve the community for years to come.

11/22/2025 Conditions Update:

We are advising GENERAL CAUTION in the mountains at this time. A thin snowpack means rocks and other shallowly buried obstacles remain your biggest hazard.

Unstable snow can be found in small wind-loaded pockets on upper elevation lee-side aspects, but even up high, scoured terrain and exposed rocks are prevalent.

Another week with limited precipitation has unfolded, and the mountains remain a rocky refuge.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Pray for snow! We will continue to issue intermittent outlooks and assess conditions before beginning our regular forecast schedule.

This is a great time to check your equipment, practice avalanche rescue, and get psyched for the season ahead. Burn some skis and don’t forget to submit observations should you find yourself out in the Pass.
