According to Dr Beach, The Best Beaches In The U.S.
Millions of Americans kick off summer the same way every year—by heading to the beach over Memorial Day weekend. Whether it’s a quick day trip or a full-blown vacation, the debate always comes up: Which beaches are actually the best?
Thankfully, there’s someone who takes that question very seriously.
“Dr. Beach” — known off the sand as coastal scientist Dr. Stephen Leatherman — has spent more than three decades ranking the top beaches in the United States. Since 1991, he’s evaluated more than 650 public beaches using 50 different criteria, including water quality, sand softness, safety, cleanliness, wave conditions, and even wildlife.
In other words, this isn’t just a popularity contest — it’s science.
