I’ve been learning a lot through my move from Seattle to San Francisco, and there are a few things I wish someone had told me beforehand.

Don’t forget to budget for:

• Parking
• Furniture
• Groceries

A luxury apartment isn’t always the best choice.

Sometimes the best home is the one that gives you:

I’m getting ready to move to San Francisco, and honestly, finding an apartment isn’t the hardest part.

Finding people is.

I’ve spent time scrolling through Facebook groups, Reddit, and rental listings, but it all feels disconnected.

You can see the room.
You can see the rent.

But it’s hard to know who the person is on the other side.

When you’re moving somewhere new, you’re not just looking for a place to live.

You’re looking for community.

You’re looking for people you can trust.

And I think that’s a challenge a lot more people are dealing with than we realize.

Most people spend more time touring the apartment than checking the neighborhood.

Big mistake.

Before you sign a lease, visit during the day and at night. Check parking, walkability, noise levels, nearby stores, and the overall vibe.

A great apartment in the wrong neighborhood can become a daily headache.

But they never compare the rent itself.

Before you commit to a place, take 5 minutes to see what similar rentals are actually going for in your area. HUD publishes Fair Market Rent (FMR) data that can help you understand whether a listing is reasonably priced for the market.
