In her spare time Lauren enjoys equestrian work, coaching volleyball, hunting for fresh powder on the slopes with her son, trail running through the Wasatch Back and Unitas, attempting to stay young by skateboarding at Woodward, and reading up on recent studies in marine biology and ornithology along the Pacific Rim. in Pre-Med Biology from Brigham Young University - Hawaii, and performed extensive research and data analysis on the migratory paths and flight patterns of the Pacific Golden Plover, on which she co-authored several publications. She has also conducted research on marine invertebrates in Saipan and Hawaii.

Looking back…

In a year where winter barely showed up and spring seems to have arrived early, it feels almost surreal to remember 1983, when Heber City faced severe spring runoff flooding.

That year, water followed a historic drainage path through town, and neighbors came together to protect homes and businesses. Sandbags lined Main Street, helping guide the rushing water north toward the fields.

The flooding of 1983 was driven by a perfect storm of conditions across Utah. Exceptionally heavy snowpack. A cold spring that delayed the melt and then rapid warming and rain. It’s a powerful reminder of how quickly nature can shape a community and how communities respond when it matters most.
