🍂 Ruffed grouse season opens this weekend in the Northwoods.

Wisconsin’s 2026 ruffed grouse season in Zone A opens Saturday, September 12 and runs through January 3, 2027 — which means fall hunting season is officially kicking into gear across Northern Wisconsin.

There’s nothing quite like a crisp morning in the hardwoods, leaves under your boots, a good dog working the cover, and miles of Northwoods forest ahead of you.

With plenty of public hunting land, backroads, trails, and small-town stops nearby, the Phillips and surrounding Northwoods area is made for weekends like this.

Blue hour has a way of slowing everyone down.

The sun slips behind the pines, the lake turns that deep, inky blue, and suddenly the pontoon is the only place anyone needs to be. Fishing lines trail quietly behind the boat. A good reset doesn’t always start with a meeting agenda.

Some fall mornings in Phillips ask you to slow all the way down. At Wisconsin Concrete Park, dawn mist curls through the trees while its handmade figures - cowboys, musicians, animals, and whole scenes from another time - wait quietly in the cool gold light.
