Emily Shuffield - Modern Intimate Portraiture

Emily Shuffield - Modern Intimate Portraiture Modern Intimate Portraiture lives somewhere between traditional portraiture and boudoir, without fully belonging to either. B|W is my language.

Color is my accent. Even if you don’t feel ready, art has a way of meeting you exactly where you are.

MODERN INTIMATE PORTRAITURE
lives somewhere between traditional portraiture and bo***ir without fully belonging to either.

The work is minimal.
A simple chair. A blank wall. Light moving across skin. Space to breathe. No heavy props. No forced posing. No distraction from what matters.
Just enough structure to let you settle into yourself

It’s honest.
I’m not asking you to become something polished and I’m not looking for perfection.
I’m watching for the moment you stop adjusting.
When your shoulders soften. When your breath slows.
When strength doesn’t need to harden to be felt.
The result isn’t just beautiful images, it’s a reflection of who you are when you stop trying and simply exist.

It’s intentional.
This is a thoughtful, collaborative process created to produce something deeper than aesthetics.
The concept, the textures, the lighting... all chosen carefully to tell your story.
Within that structure, space is left open for movement, for emotion, for the unexpected moments to unfold naturally.

Portraiture for your soul.

It took 6 days to summit Kilimanjaro. Somewhere along that journey, I learned the meaning on Pole Pole - to move slowly and breathe with intention.

I got sick. I was rushed down. But I made it.

Coming home, I carried something different. An appreciation for the in-between moments. The ones that don’t announce themselves, but matter deeply.

Photography became my practice of presence, a way to stay with the moment instead of trying to outrun it.

This is the work I make now.
Studying shadows and chasing light.

Ninety days sober - a quiet milestone worth celebrating. I found focus not only through my lens or the art of self-portraits, but through the quiet act of showing up for myself, day after day.
Clarity comes with consistency.
Grace, with time.

My elementary bus stop looks much different today than I remember it. 🚌 While I am thankful to no longer stand here, It still represents a piece of my story and without it… my feet would stand less sturdy today!
