Today, we pause to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. As a former New Yorker, this day carries a weight that never fades, no matter how many years pass.
I still remember the surreal, jarring feeling of being in Miami when the news broke—not being able to get in touch with my entire family while sitting in a classroom watching the city that raised me change forever on a screen. Being so far away was heartbreaking, but even from a distance, I saw the incredible grit and unwavering resilience that defines New York.
Today, we reflect on the bravery of the first responders and the strength of a city that refused to be broken. My husband and I will continue to teach our children about the profound impact of this day. We will never forget.
