Why is there a tiny hole in every bathroom sink I’ve ever seen?” Turns out that hole’s not there by accident, and it serves a very important role.

When the water rises to the hole, it starts draining instead of overflowing onto the bathroom floor and creating an awful mess. Many standard tubs are also equipped with overflow holes to solve the same issue.

While the hole’s primary purpose is to prevent flooding, it also helps the sink drain more quickly. Essentially, the overflow channel lets air into the drain system, which reduces suction and allows water to go down the drain more quickly.

The bathroom sink overflow hole drains out of an internal channel that leads to your home’s main drain pipe, Eyman says. It’s essentially a little concealed passageway built into the sink itself, allowing water to bypass the basin and flow safely down the drain.

..EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM FRIDAY TO 8 PM PDT
SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures of 95 to 110
expected.

* WHERE...A large portion of southwest California including the
coastal ranges and adjacent foothills, as well as the coastal
valleys.

* WHEN...From 10 AM Friday to 8 PM PDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heat hazards may extend into next week for
portions of the region.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

The Fed left their benchmark interest rates the same today. No hike. No cut. Just a good old-fashioned game of financial statue.

The Economy Report Card:

Economy: ✅ Still growing
Jobs: ✅ Holding up
Inflation: ❌ Still annoying
Fed's mood: 😐 "We've seen worse, but we're not celebrating."

Mortgage rates have seen some improvement over the last few days as bond markets have rallied. The primary driver has been a drop in oil prices following easing tensions in the Middle East, which has reduced near-term inflation concerns. . The 30-year fixed rate has been averaging 6.5-6.75% the past few weeks depending on the loan specifics. See below for what’s ahead this week:

What Helped Rates This Week?
Lower oil prices – Less inflation pressure has been supportive of bonds and mortgage pricing.
Stock market weakness – Investors have moved money into safer assets like Treasuries, pushing yields lower
10-Year Treasury yield – Currently around 4.62%, down from recent highs.

The next three days could set the tone for rates heading into August:

Wednesday – Federal Reserve Meeting
Most expect the Fed to leave rates unchanged.
Markets still see a meaningful chance of another rate hike.
More important than the decision will be what the Fed says about future inflation and rate policy.
Thursday – GDP Report
