It will come as no surprise to any of my friends and colleagues that I have created and shared multiple publications over my decades of work with property condition assessments and environs involved in those aspects. With a few requests over the past few years, my team and I have made updates to the most recently published work focusing on Red Flags in PCAs, and the newest, expanded version of When Bad Things Happen to Good Buildings will be released very soon!

As I have just celebrated 18 years with McClain Consulting Services, Inc. I am appreciative and humbled to continue to work with clients, specialists, contractors, and staff that inspire and engage in this industry in meaningful and fulfilling ways.

As the year comes to a close, my firm has taken on more reports this month than in the second and third quarters of the year! While I don't always remember every site perfectly, I do recall the excellent people I meet along the way. We’ve developed quite a system for maneuvering through spaces while working on multifamily residential properties. Respecting the pandemic distancing guidelines while continuing to provide diligent and thorough assessments has not been as challenging as we had thought!

We've really enjoyed the collaborative pivoting that companies have displayed. My company luckily already had remote employees and our administrative work did not have to shift too drastically in the face of the pandemic. Obviously travel is a bit more difficult, but not impossible. What are some strategies my pals in the PCA industry are using to thrive and pivot, if needed, at this time?

2020 has sent a lot of businesses in a new direction — but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

We value the health and safety of our staff. During this time we are all working remotely, and although I miss seeing them in person at headquarters, I'm pleased we are able to do our part!
