For Earth Day, and got to spend an afternoon in The Huntington Gardens Bonsai Nursery with Assistant Curator Daniel Deephouse (thanks to friend of the firm a_renee.) With little to no prior knowledge of bonsai, and at least two black thumbs between them (both Allie’s,) they emerged from the nursery calm, fascinated, and honestly spiritually charged. Yes, much of this was due to ’s dulcet voice, but the bonsai were also pretty great. And as it turns out, the way Daniel approaches bonsai isn’t so different from the way we approach home ownership.

Jenny anxiously awaits the construction of their garage-turned-ADU so that she and Allie Altschuler can visit comfortably without having to charter a flight home. This Lincoln Heights townhome came with four en-suite bedrooms and a communal pool, all nearby everything they know and love. Providing a client with full-service treatment when they’re moving across the country is absolutely something I consider to be within our wheelhouse. Things I’d consider to be out of our wheelhouse are “Oceanside” and “senior community,” both of which were included in this sale. So why take the job? Because the seller is my mother. This is one link in a complicated chain of events that has changed the circumstances for all of us. It was one of the most personal and taxing transactions I’ll ever go through, and it wouldn’t have been anywhere near possible without , , and the on-the-ground help from our co-listing agent, . The buyer’s agent, TK Smith, lived and worked in the same community and was an immensely helpful teammate in getting this done.
