Need a few ideas for the next time someone asks, “What should we do this weekend?” 🍂

Fall is one of my favorite times to get out and explore the Tri-Cities. The mornings have that autumn chill, there’s always something going on, and even the simplest plans can turn into lifelong memories.

I put together a few easy ideas for days with family, time with friends, or those weekends when you want to do something but no one knows what.

October has a way of getting busy quickly – cooler mornings, shorter days, school activities, fall events, and suddenly winter doesn’t feel quite so far away. 🍂

This is a good month to finish the outdoor projects that are harder to deal with once freezing temperatures arrive. Think sprinkler winterization, disconnected hoses, clean gutters, sealed drafts, and a few quick safety checks inside.

And if September got away from you, you’re not behind. You don’t have to tackle everything in one weekend. Save this post, choose a few things to start with, and call it progress. 😉

If you’re ready to declutter but aren’t sure where to begin, here are the things I’d focus on first—especially if you’re thinking about selling. 🏡

1️⃣ The chair that became a closet

Clear off the jackets, bags and clothes. One empty chair can make the room feel more open.

2️⃣ The collection of water bottles and coffee mugs

Keep the ones you actually use, then donate or store the rest. They take up more cabinet space than you realize.

3️⃣ Everything living on the kitchen counters

Mail, appliances, and coffee supplies add up quickly. Keep out what you use every day and put away the rest.

4️⃣ Cords and chargers and that random piece of plastic

Sort through that mystery junk drawer and let go of anything you no longer recognize or use.

5️⃣ Too much furniture

If you have to squeeze between furniture, try removing something. A little breathing room can make a noticeable difference.

6️⃣ Kids have a lot of things

Toys, backpacks and extracurricular items don’t need to disappear. Giving them designated spaces will make your home feel calmer.

7️⃣ Bathroom products everywhere

Put away the extras, the half-used bottles and things you rarely reach for. Guests and buyers appreciate the counter space and storage when they can see it.

8️⃣ Decor that might be a little out of hand

You don’t have to pack away your personality. Keep the pieces you love most and store the rest for your next home.

The easiest way to start is one room, one surface, at a time. Decide what needs to stay in reach, what can be donated and what you won’t need until after a move. You don’t have to declutter your entire home in one weekend.

Getting your home market-ready doesn’t mean making it feel empty or putting your everyday life on hold. The goal is to create a little more breathing room while keeping your home comfortable and functional for the people still living in it.

I had the best coffee at the Richland Farmers Market this morning—I liked it so much, I went back for a second. ☕️ ✌🏼

Conversatio Coffee Roasters is based in Othello, WA, where they roast their own organic beans in-house with no additives. The coffee was amazing, and the service was even better!

I may be a little biased because my barista was a fellow Virginia Tech graduate—my husband and brother’s alma mater. 😜

Conversatio visits the Tri-Cities for events like the farmers market, but I’m hoping they eventually open a permanent location here. I already know it would become one of my weekly stops!

September is here, which means cooler mornings, earlier sunsets, and the beginning of all things fall. 🍂

It’s also a good time to give your home a little attention before cooler weather settles in.

Take a few minutes the check on the things that are easy to put off, like changing the HVAC filter, clearing out the gutters, testing those smoke alarms, checking for drafts, and start getting your outdoor spaces ready for the season ahead. Nothing too exciting, but your future self will be glad you did it. 😉

And no, you don’t have to tackle everything at once. Save this post, tackle a few things when you have time, and call it progress.
