There’s a long list of things I’d rather do this week than board a plane and head to work.
Spend time with my family
Tend my garden
List a house
Show houses
Catch up on paperwork
Instead, today I’m boarding another flight and heading to Washington, DC.
Why?
Because I care that much about the legislative and governance work we do on behalf of homeowners, property owners, Realtors, and small business owners across the United States.
Realtor Legislative Meetings matter—more than anything else on our calendar
In my opinion, the Realtor Legislative Meetings are the most important meetings we have all year. More important than conferences. More important than social events. And yes—even more important than Realtor prom.
Out of approximately 1.4 million Realtors nationwide, only about 6,000 are expected to attend. That’s less than one-half of one percent of our profession showing up to advocate for homeownership, property rights, and the future of housing.
Those of us who attend will spend the week discussing ways to positively impact housing policy, advance property rights, and help create a sustainable future for generations to come.
Here’s the real part
Everyone in our industry benefits from this work—whether they attend or not.
We miss family dinners, time at home, and the comfort of our daily routines because we know this work matters.
Advocacy is an investment in the future of homeownership. The conversations we have today help pave the way for tomorrow’s property owners, entrepreneurs, and Realtors.
And much of the work done in DC goes far beyond real estate—it helps protect private property rights and supports small business owners across America.
Out of 1.4 million Realtors, only about 6,000 will be in Washington this week.
Is your Realtor one of them?
