At the end of the day, relax and enjoy your home. Your home should be your peace, your comfort, and your escape from the world. Create spaces that calm your mind, restore your energy, and remind you why hard work matters. Luxury is not always expensive — sometimes it’s simply walking into a home that feels like you.

Did you know? Yes — Fourth Ward, especially the historic Freedmen’s Town area, is often connected to the legacy of Black economic excellence in Houston and has been referred to by many as Houston’s version of “Black Wall Street.”

After emancipation, formerly enslaved African Americans built a thriving self-sustaining community there in the late 1800s. The area became known for Black-owned businesses, churches, schools, professionals, musicians, and entrepreneurs during a time when segregation limited opportunities elsewhere. Freedmen’s Town was one of the first communities in Houston founded and governed by freed African Americans.

The neighborhood had:
• Black doctors and lawyers
• Grocery stores and restaurants
• Barber shops and beauty salons
• Jazz and blues culture
• Strong churches and community leadership
• Brick streets laid by formerly enslaved residents themselves

Like the original Tulsa Race Massacre tied to Greenwood District, Fourth Ward represented Black ownership, resilience, and wealth-building despite systemic barriers.

Over time, gentrification, highway construction, and redevelopment changed much of the neighborhood, but its cultural and historical impact is still deeply respected in Houston. Today, many preservation groups continue fighting to protect Freedmen’s Town history and the remaining original brick streets.

That history is powerful because it shows Black excellence, entrepreneurship, and community-building have always existed — even when history books barely talked about it. #2026

Mental illness🙏🏿 right—mental illness has been labeled differently depending on culture, time period, and who’s doing the diagnosing. What one group calls depression or anxiety, another might see as stress, trauma, or even spiritual imbalance.

Even clinical labels in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders have changed over time, which shows these definitions aren’t fixed.
Labels can help with treatment and support, but they can also create stigma or misdiagnosis. Bottom line: a label is just a tool—it shouldn’t define the person. #2026
