Clear Creek just north of Shadow Creek Ranch has seen more water during Hurricane Harvey than in its recorded history. This has been referred to as a 1,000 year event.

The watersheds of Shadow Creek Ranch are performing as designed. The streets were designed and intended to store water. When water in the lakes reaches roughly a foot from the top of the lake's edge, the water will start back-flowing in the streets through the street inlets. Again, this is by design. There is an enormous amount of storage when all streets of SCR are being utilized. The home builders of SCR then build the house pads roughly two feet above the top of curb.

You can see in this video of SCR we found (posted on YouTube by Dean Digamon), even though it is awful to see that amount of water, on the whole, SCR is doing extremely well considering the unprecedented amount of water in Clear Creek.

So far we have not heard of one house that had taken on water inside the dwelling. (UPDATE: We hadn't heard of any at the time of this post but reports are now coming in. We're working on putting together a list of neighborhoods that had water in homes. If you know of any please let us know.)

Unfortunately, it is not over, and we may not have seen the worst of it. I hope SCR continues to detain water in every little place available for a couple days longer. Up to now, she's done an amazing job.

The Sports Complex at Shadow Creek Ranch is now open.

The $10.1 million facility includes amenities such as lighted softball/baseball fields, turf field, volleyball courts, a playground paved walking paths, covered pavilion, concessions and an amphitheater.

The 65-acre park will provide an opportunity for Pearland to host regional, statewide and national athletic contests and tournaments for a variety of sports. It also has the capacity to host multiple tournaments/events simultaneously. It is the first of its kind for the City of Pearland and Parks & Recreation Department as an athletic provider. Field lighting, HVAC installation, pavilion and playground installation, turf placement and perimeter fencing and bleachers were completed in previous months along with the installation of a traffic signal at Trinity Bay and FM 2234.

“Fusion of the Arts 2016”

Pearland Alliance for Arts and Culture and Pearland Arts League will host the second annual “Fusion of the Arts 2016” event. Reflection Bay Event Center 12234 Shadow Creek Parkway Building #7, Pearland TX is the location for the September 10th 1-7 PM event. Included in the program will be: Allegro Pearland Academy of Music, Kidsbackporch Productions, Pearl Theater, Global Organization for Divinity (Indian Dance Group) and Pearland Arts League 6th Annual Juried Art Exhibition. “Fusion of the Arts 2016” is free to the public and is supported by a City of Pearland Cultural Arts Grant Program from the City of Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Heidi Wiess, Director and Sherry Stockwell, Chairperson for Pearland Alliance for Art and Culture and Naomi Stevens, President, and Margo Green and Michael Slattery, Chairpersons for Pearland Arts League have joined together to create and afternoon to remember. The “Fusion of the Arts 2016” committee also includes: Peihong Endris, Heather Scharbor; Sandy Shiver; Paulisa Winsong; Renee Van Nifterk, Suzuette Schutze, Ron Solomon, Pam McDowell and Nisha Giri. This committee has combined their many years of experience in the artistic community, organizing, marketing and promoting art and artist, to present a fun, interesting and entertaining afternoon, drawing people into the world of music, theater, dance and juried art.

The Pearland Arts League 6th Annual Juried Art Exhibition will be expanded this year with three categories of painting, photography and sculpture. Renowned artist, Patrick Palmer, Dean and Studio School Faculty Chair and Department Head of Art History at the Glassell School of Art Houston, will be the Juror for the Juried Exhibition.
