The Fort Bend Museum is putting on a free concert this Friday, and the best part is that a lot of the evening was built by local families.

The 4th Annual Tiempo de Celebrar Sunset Concert kicks off September 19 at 6 p.m. on the museum grounds in Richmond. It's a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with live music, community booths, and personal pieces and stories that Fort Bend families contributed through the museum's recent community art call.

That last part is what makes this one different from a regular outdoor concert. Instead of just showing up to listen, you're seeing pieces of your neighbors' history on display alongside the music.

The Fort Bend Museum has been part of Richmond since 1972 and is operated by the Fort Bend History Association, which also cares for the 1883 Moore Home and the 1855 Long-Smith Cottage right there on the property. H-E-B is sponsoring this year's event.

It's free, it's open to the public, and it's a good excuse to bring the family downtown on a Friday evening. Chairs, blankets, and a hungry crew are all you really need.

There's a new education option for families in Richmond, and it's worth knowing about.

The School of Science and Technology, a tuition free public charter school, opened its Sugar Land College Prep campus right here on West Bellfort Street in Richmond. The campus serves Pre-K through twelfth grade, and it's open to any family in the Houston area, not just those who live nearby.

Because it's a charter school, there's no tuition cost to attend. Families apply the same way you would for any public charter option.

SST also runs a before and after school care program on campus. It's designed to give kids a safe, nurturing environment outside of regular school hours, with a mix of educational, artistic, and social activities built in. For working families juggling schedules, that kind of on-site care can make a real difference.

The campus is STEM focused and home to the Tiger Sharks. It's one more sign of how much is growing in and around Richmond right now, from housing to schools to everyday amenities.

Right down the street in Rosenberg, the Knights of Columbus are hosting their 11th Annual Wing Fling Cook Off and Co****le Tournament on Saturday, October 10th at KC Park, 2007 Kay Cee Drive.

Gates open at 10 AM and run until 6 PM. Admission is $10 at the door, and kids six and under get in free.

If you're going for the food: wing tasting samples are ready by 1 PM, with cook-off categories in Buffalo, BBQ, and Open style, plus a new Dessert Wing side pot this year. Judges award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies in each category, plus a People's Choice winner.

If you're going for the games: the co****le tournament is double elimination with a blind draw. Registration is $10 per person at the gate starting at 12:30 PM, and play begins at 1:30 PM. Bring your own bags or use the ones provided at no charge.

Round it out with a silent auction and a raffle throughout the day. It's a great low-key Saturday for the whole family, and it's for a good cause. This is a fundraiser that benefits Council 2801's scholarships and community programs, including support for Holy Rosary Catholic School and Meals on Wheels.

Lamar CISD brand new Career and Technical Education Center officially opens its doors today for the 2026-2027 school year.

This 236,000 square foot campus in Rosenberg is the result of the 2022 bond, and it gives students districtwide access to hands on training in fields like healthcare, robotics, welding, HVAC, cosmetology, culinary arts, and drone technology. Students stay enrolled at their home high school and travel to the center for part of the day, with bus service provided and no tuition required.

It's a big win for Fort Bend County families and a great example of what that bond investment is actually delivering. Whether your student is drawn to skilled trades, healthcare, or tech, this center opens up real career paths before graduation.

Big things are coming to Richmond. 🏒⛸️ The Deep South Ice and Sports Plex is opening soon on Harlem Road, bringing Houston's first large scale, multi rink ice facility right to our backyard. Think two NHL sized rinks, a 1,500 seat arena, volleyball courts, and a new hometown hockey team, the Houston Bulls. Public skating, youth and adult hockey, figure skating, and more are all part of the plan. As soon as we can get access, we'll be doing a tour so you can see it before everyone else does. Stay tuned!

Richmond just became a warehouse club battleground.

A new Sam's Club is officially coming to FM 762 and Manford Boulevard here in Richmond. We're talking a 49 million dollar project, breaking ground this November and set to finish by October 2027.

That means our city will soon have both Sam's Club and Costco calling Richmond home.

Costco brought that treasure hunt energy when it opened at the Grand at Aliana back in 2024. You never know if you're walking out with a rotisserie chicken or a surprise designer find. Sam's Club is coming in hot with value pricing, curbside pickup, and everyday savings.

I'll say it. I'm team Costco all the way.

This kind of investment tells you everything about where Richmond is headed. Big retailers do not spend 49 million dollars on a hunch. They see the growth here, and so do I.

Richmond's about to get a whole lot more colorful this Saturday.

Fort Bend County Libraries is hosting its Multicultural Festival at George Memorial Library from 10 AM to 3 PM, and it's completely free. Expect cultural performances, hands-on exhibits, and workshops celebrating the many backgrounds that make up Fort Bend County, plus a food hall stacked with local vendors.

The day wraps up with the Houston Brass Quintet's "Around the World" performance from 2 to 2:45 PM in the Bohachevsky Gallery. They'll take the audience through the sounds of Latin America, the British Isles, India, Africa, France, and the United States, all in one set.

Richmond just got a lot bigger.
Toll Brothers and Tri Pointe Homes broke ground on Evergrove, a new master-planned community off FM 723 and Old Pecan Drive, right along Jones Creek near FM 359.

The numbers are big: 1,655 homes across 911 acres, split almost evenly between the two builders. Tri Pointe's homes will range from about 2,100 to 5,300 square feet, and Toll Brothers is building anywhere from 1,900 up to over 6,100 square feet.

Homesites are projected to be ready for buyers this October.
