A man was hired to paint a boat by its owner. He brought his paint and brushes and began to paint the boat a bright red, as the owner asked him.
While painting, he noticed a small hole in the hull, and quietly repaired it.
When he finished painting, the painter received his money and left.
The next day, the owner of the boat came to the painter and presented him with another check, much higher than the payment from painting the prior day.
The painter was surprised and said “You've already paid me for painting the boat, Sir!”
“But this is not for the paint job. It's for repairing the hole in the boat” the owner said.
“Ah! But it was such a small service...
certainly it's not worth paying me such a high amount for something so insignificant” the painter told him.
“My dear friend, you do not understand. Let me tell you what happened:
When I asked you to paint the boat, I forgot to mention the hole. When the boat dried, my kids took the boat and went on a fishing trip. They did not know that there was a hole. I was not at home at that time. When l returned and noticed they had taken the boat, l was frightened because I remembered that the boat had a hole.
Imagine my relief and joy when I saw them returning from fishing. When they got home l examined the boat and found that you had repaired the hole!
You see, now, what you did? You saved the life of my children! I do not have enough money to pay your 'small' good deed” said the owner of the boat.
The moral of the story is to be like the painter.
No matter what, when, or how you have the power to repair, improve, or fix the 'leaks' you find in this world.
You never know when someone else is in need of our talents, or when God holds a pleasant surprise for us to be helpful to others.
Maybe you've already repaired numerous 'boat holes' for several people without realizing how many lives you've impacted... or maybe you're just starting.
Either way make a difference, be the best you, and have a blessed day.
Colossians 3:22-25 KJV
22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
