Today I found myself fighting back tears.
When I met this 89-year-old Vietnam veteran a few weeks ago, he told me he'd stay in his home while it was on the market. I could tell he was lonely. He spent more time telling me stories than talking about the house. Despite having other appointments, I sat there and listened because I could tell he needed to talk.
Fast forward to today, while signing the listing paperwork, he told me he'd be gone by tomorrow.
You see, his wife had just passed away a few months ago. Through tears and a quivering voice, he looked at me and said, "I can't do this anymore. This house is too damn quiet without her, and it's driving me nuts. Tomorrow, the house is in your hands"
Seeing another grown man cry is tough. Seeing a fellow veteran, a man hardened by war and violence cry over losing his wife is something else entirely.
Sometimes the job's got nothing to do with real estate.
Sometimes we're just trying to help folks move on from what's causing them pain.
