Hattie Marie McGary has been dreaming of opening a restaurant since she was a young girl. Now at 77 years old, she has set out to prove it is never too late to bring those dreams to life with her new soul food restaurant, Hattie Marie's Cafe.

"It just comes natural to me," McGary said of her cooking.

The little shop at 105 Louis St. in Cantonment, situated about a block away from Carver Park, captures the heart of her business. It's a place where people in that community can walk or ride their bike to and secure a home-cooked meal.
